BRUNSWICK, Georgia: June 27, 2011– Southeast Georgia Health System
team members Deidra (Dede) Smith, manager, Patient Financial Services,
Brunswick Campus, and Sharon Zawislak, manager, Human Resources, Camden
Campus, recently completed the 2010 Georgia Hospital Association (GHA)
Certificate in Health Care Management and Leadership Program.
Smith joined the Health System in 1997 as a business analyst in the Information
Systems Department before transferring to the Financial Services Department
as a staff accountant. She subsequently served as a materials financial
analyst, decision support analyst and accounting manager before being
promoted to her current position in 2008. She is a graduate of Brunswick
High School and earned her Bachelor’s degree in business administration
with an emphasis on accounting at what is now Georgia Southern University.
She received her CPA license in 1993 and worked with public accounting
firms prior to joining the Health System. Smith, who was born in Lubbock,
Texas but moved to Brunswick as a child, has been a member of the Georgia
Society of CPAs and is currently a member of Healthcare Financial Management
Association (HFMA) and GHA. She has one son, Kasey, who will graduate
from Georgia Southern University in December 2011.
Zawislak first joined the Health System in 2007 as a human resources generalist.
In 2010, she was promoted to her current position where she manages the
day-to-day operations of the Human Resources Department at the Health
System’s Camden Campus and Senior Care Center-St. Marys. Prior to
joining the Health System, she worked in the Human Resources Department
at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup for eight years. Zawislak, a native
of Jesup, completed her Bachelor’s degree in business administration
from American Intercontinental University and is currently pursuing her
MBA in human resources through Penn State. She is married to Jeff Zawislak
and has two children, Colby and Alexis.
GHA kicked off this yearlong educational program in spring 2004 to train
and equip health care professionals to be effective managers and leaders.
The program was designed to meet the training needs of those professionals
new to management and supervisory roles as well as coach professionals
who are currently in management roles who want to improve their leadership skills.
