Health System Donates Supplies to Sea Turtle Center
BRUNSWICK, Georgia: May 26 , 2011 – When local gastroenterologist
David C. Whitehead, M.D., MPH, performed an endocopsy on a sea turtle
at The Georgia Sea Turtle Center on Jekyll Island, he discovered the Center’s
need for additional medical supplies. After he brought this need to the
attention of Southeast Georgia Health System leadership, Kyle Emerson,
the Health System’s current administrative resident, arranged for
the donation of $20,000 worth of medical supplies. Although the supplies
were expired for human use, they can be safely utilized for the many turtles
the Center cares for each year. The donated materials ranged from gauze
to surgical tools.
