BRUNSWICK, Georgia: March 14, 2011 – According to the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention, colorectal cancer affects more than 57,000
men and women in the United States each year and is the second leading
cause of cancer deaths in the country. The good news is that it is one
of the most detectable cancers and it responds well to early treatment.
That’s why all during the month of March, National Colorectal Cancer
Awareness Month, strategic affiliates of Southeast Georgia Health System
are offering free colorectal cancer screenings.
The American Cancer Society and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
recommends that everyone should begin colorectal cancer screenings at
age 50, earlier if they have a family or personal history of colorectal
cancer or polyps or if they have Crohn’s disease of inflammatory
bowel disease.
