BRUNSWICK, Georgia: Oct. 22, 2010– October is National Physical Therapy
Month and Southeast Georgia Health System would like to recognize our
team of experienced physical therapists and therapy assistants. Physical
therapy is important in the restoration of maximum physical function possible
to each individual patient following an injury or when dealing with a
medical condition. Whether someone has been in an automobile accident,
suffered a stroke, been hurt playing sports or suffers from a chronic
debilitating condition, the Health System offers the physical therapy
services to get patients of all ages back to active living.
Benefits of physical therapy include increasing and maintaining muscle
strength and endurance, restoring and increasing joint range of motion,
increasing coordination, reducing pain, decreasing muscle spasms and plasticity,
reducing swelling and inflammation in the joints, promoting healing of
soft tissue lesions, preventing the contracting and deformity of limbs,
alleviating walking problems, decreasing stress and educating patient
and their families.
The physical therapy services provided by the Health System use the latest
technology, such as the Biodex Unweighing System.™ This system allows
therapists to take enough weight off patient’s joints while undergoing
therapy to allow for reduced pain and quicker recovery.
The Health System’s team of rehabilitation professionals are highly
trained and experienced in providing the individualized care patients
need to be restored to health. Our team members are all certified in their
respective fields with education ranging from bachelor’s through
doctoral degrees. Additionally, our therapists have special training in
a wide-range of modalities, including pediatrics, aquatics, manual therapy,
women’s health, geriatrics, stroke rehab, spinal cord injury rehab,
hand therapy, neurological rehabilitation, and balance training.
“Our team works together to bring you the best and fastest results
possible,” says board-certified orthopaedic surgeon Beau Sasser,
M.D., medical director of the Health System’s sports medicine program.
“When you’ve had an orthopaedic procedure performed, whether
it’s an ACL reconstruction or a knee or hip replacement, physical
therapy is essential to making a full recovery. Our team of therapists
does an outstanding job of getting our patients back on their feet and
back to enjoying an active lifestyle.”
