BRUNSWICK, Georgia: July 30, 2010 – Southeast Georgia Health System
is pleased to announce that team member Kimberly French, DPT, OCS, has
completed her orthopaedic specialist certification. The American Physical
Therapy Association (APTA), a national professional organization representing
more than 73,330 members throughout the United States, established the
specialist certification program in 1978. Specialization is the process
by which a physical therapist builds on a broad base of professional education
and practice to develop a greater depth of knowledge and skills related
to a particular area of practice.
French, who began working at the Health System’s Outpatient Rehabilitation
Care Center in April, earned her doctorate in physical therapy from the
State University of New York at Buffalo. The certification exam required
eight months of study and to qualify to take the test, French had to have
a least two years experience of working with orthopaedic patients. In
addition to earning her specialized certification in orthopaedics, the
native of Oswego, N.Y., is currently working on her orthopaedic manual
therapy certification and expects to have it completed in early 2011.
