BRUNSWICK, Georgia: Dec. 13, 2010– Southeast Georgia Health System’s
Brunswick Campus has been named a Top 10 Georgia Hospital for Overall
Orthopaedic Services by HealthGrades, Inc. and published in Georgia Trend
Magazine. HealthGrades rates each of the nation’s 5,000 plus short-term,
critical–care hospitals based on data from state and federal governments
and the resulting rankings are based solely on outcomes. HealthGrades
analyzed patient outcome data from 2007 to 2009 for virtually every hospital
in the United States using information from the Centers for Medicare and
Medicaid Services.
The Health System offers a full-range of orthopaedic services, including
both surgical and non-surgical treatment options, and launched the Joint
Replacement Center in October 2009. Making the top 10 for all orthopaedic
care is quite an achievement, says J. Melvin Deese, M.D., medical director
of the Health System’s Orthopaedic and Spine Center of Excellence.
“We are very proud to have been named as a top 10 hospital in overall
orthopaedic services by Georgia Trend and HealthGrades,” says Deese,
who adds that the Health System’s Joint Replacement Center has performed
over 600 total joint replacements over the last year and recently completed
their 100th MAKOplasty®, an advanced partial knee replacement procedure.
“It is particularly rewarding due to the stringent criteria that
have to be met and the extensive data obtained from patient outcomes.
It is also very timely because we are to developing a new comprehensive,
Orthopaedic and Spine Center of Excellence in an effort to further enhance
our services and outcomes. While the top 10 is nice, we are striving to
become number one.”
Health System President & CEO Gary R. Colberg, FACHE, agrees. “We
are so proud of our team members who provide top-notch care in all areas
of orthopaedic services, from sports medicine evaluations and treatments,
to intricate hand surgery, to non-surgical treatments for musculoskeletal
and neuromuscular problems, to the latest in joint replacement surgery
options. Having had a knee replacement at our hospital just two months
ago, I can personally attest to the excellent, personalized care we provide
our orthopaedic patients. This recognition is an outstanding achievement
for our team and making the top 10 is a great coup for our program,”
Colberg says. “As we continue to expand our Orthopaedic and Spine
Center of Excellence, our already exceptional services will continue to
improve and patients can be assured that they are receiving the best possible
orthopaedic care available.”
