BRUNSWICK, Georgia: May 21, 2009 – According to the American Association
of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, 69% of adults ages 35 to 44 have lost
at least one permanent tooth to an accident, gum disease, a failed root
canal, or tooth decay. Furthermore, by age 74, 26% of adults have lost
all of their permanent teeth. For years, fixed bridges and removable dentures
were the only options available for tooth loss. However, neither is a
perfect solution and often bring with them a number of other problems.
Today there is another option for patients who are missing teeth. That
option is dental implants.
To find out more about dental implants, the public is invited to the Southeast
Georgia Health System lecture “All You Need to Know About Dental
Implants: Artificial Tooth Replacement.”
This presentation, part of the Health System’s ongoing series of
free community lectures, is scheduled for Thursday, May 28, at 7 p.m.
in the Linda S. Pinson Conference Center on the Health System’s
Brunswick Campus, 2415 Parkwood Drive.
The speaker for this event is Jeffery Capes, DMD, MD, oral and maxillofacial
surgeon. Capes earned his dental degree from the Medical College of Georgia
and received his medical degree in oral and maxillofacial surgery from
Case Western Reserve University in Ohio. He will answer questions for
the audience and light refreshments will also be served.
