Christopher M. Yonz, M.D., orthopedic surgeon at Summit Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Surgery, graduated with a medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta and completed his orthopaedic surgery residency and sports medicine fellowship at University of Kentucky in Lexington. Prior to medical school, Dr. Yonz graduated Summa cum Laude from the University of Georgia. During his sports medicine fellowship, he had the unique opportunity to provide medical care to multiple, high level Division I athletes, who now play professionally, and an Olympian.

Dr. Yonz sees patients in St. Marys, Ga. He has a deep understanding of both surgical and nonsurgical treatments, managing injuries in-season, preventing injuries, and the intricate working relationship between trainers, coaches and doctors. Practicing patient-centered medicine, he takes the time to listen and understand his patient’s problems to ensure the best treatment plan.

When Dr. Yonz isn’t practicing medicine, he enjoys outside activities, especially golfing, walking, hiking and kayaking. Although Dr. Yonz had his pick of Health System’s to choose from throughout the country, he decided to return to his roots and family in Georgia following medical school and surgical training because family ties are as important to him as medicine.

Persistent knee pain can limit your ability to enjoy recreational and everyday activities, like golfing or gardening. As a result, you may also lose the ability to enjoy life to its fullest. If you’re considering joint replacement surgery, here’s some good news: Robotic knee surgery is now available at the Southeast Georgia Health System Camden Campus. Research shows that robotic surgery offers more precision and a faster recovery than standard knee replacement procedures. The orthopaedic surgeons at the Camden Campus use the ROSA® Knee System for patients who need total knee arthroplasty, also known as total knee replacement. This precise system of replacing knees can restore mobility to people struggling with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, degenerative joint disease or a traumatic injury.
