The Happiest Role in Health Care

Most health care professionals focus on overcoming challenging conditions
and treating diseases. Yet some doctors and nurses at Southeast Georgia
Health System experience their role a little differently. That’s
because they have the privilege of participating in a joyful miracle:
They deliver babies.
Midwives at the Camden Campus are all registered nurses who have completed
a master’s degree in nursing and are nationally certified in nurse-midwifery.
Together, they have decades of experience helping women have healthy babies.
Cynthia Wallace, BSN, MN, CNM, is a midwife who works closely with Dr.
Egly and has 25 years of experience in her job. Like her fellow midwives,
she typically handles normal pregnancies and births but leaves more complicated
cases to physicians. And should an unforeseen complication arise at any
point during labor for a woman delivering with a midwife, a backup obstetrician
is on call 24/7 to assist.
