Biography

Katherine L. Maurath, M.D., board-certified physiatrist, specializes in physiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation. She received her medical degree at the University of Cincinnati in Ohio, earned her board-certification from the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 1985, and received her board certification from the American Board of Physical and Electrodiagnostic Medicine in 1995. In addition to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, she trained at the renowned Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine in New York City, ranked among U.S. News & World Report’s 10 best rehabilitation hospitals since 1989, setting standards and advances in rehabilitation care.

Dr. Maurath joined Summit Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Surgery as a physiatrist in 1998, seeing patients at their Brunswick and St. Simons Island offices. Her areas of clinical interest and expertise include the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain and neuromuscular dysfunction, neck and back pain, spinal cord injuries, stroke impairments and other neuromuscular and musculoskeletal conditions. A patient and thorough physician, Dr. Maurath works closely with patients to assess, diagnose and develop personalized treatment plans to help her patients recover from their injuries, conditions and functional impairments.

Dr. Maurath initially began her specialty in internal medicine, but as she continued her training, she found a particular interest in musculoskeletal conditions and how addressing those conditions can dramatically improve a patient’s independence and quality of life. Dedicated and caring, Dr. Maurath is patient-focused, intent on listening to her patients’ problems and finding the right solution for each one. While she is not practicing medicine, Dr. Maurath enjoys painting and maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle. Her biggest hobby is CrossFit, an intense exercise program that she participates in with her husband.
