Biography

Ciel Harris, M.D., is a board-certified gastroenterologist practicing at Southeast Georgia Physician Associates-Gastroenterology in Brunswick and St. Marys, Georgia. A passionate and skilled physician, Dr. Harris treats a wide variety of conditions, including abdominal pain, Crohn’s disease, irritable bowel syndrome and liver disease. Gastroenterology immediately captured Dr. Harris’ interest throughout her early career. Offering the perfect blend of anatomy, physiology, basic pathology and procedures, gastroenterology was the most compelling specialty for her.

Originally from the Caribbean island of Barbados, Dr. Harris relocated to the United States for medical training and stayed because the advantages of obtaining the most up-to-date medical knowledge and treatment techniques would allow her to provide the best patient care possible. She earned her medical degree from the University of the West Indies and completed her internal medicine residency as well as her fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at the University of Florida, College of Medicine in Jacksonville. Additionally, she furthered her education with an observership of gastroenterology and advanced endoscopy at the Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.

Fulfilling her childhood dream of becoming a physician, Dr. Harris believes that the practice of medicine includes not only theory but compassion, patience and a sense of altruism. She strives to convey these qualities through her daily clinical practice and life. While developing treatment plans, Dr. Harris utilizes a patient-centered approach in which she takes into account each patient’s values, goals and preferences to make educated decisions together with the patient regarding their care. Using this method gives patients the opportunity to weigh in on their treatment options and strengthens the doctor-patient relationship.

When Dr. Harris isn’t practicing medicine, she enjoys acrylic painting to help clear her mind.
