Denny A. Carter, M.D. grew up in Georgia with a love of sports and the outdoors, playing in tennis tournaments throughout the south and spending time hunting and fishing. He was a national merit scholar and earned a full academic scholarship to Mississippi State University, graduating summa cum laude in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He then attended the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta where he finished with a 4.0 grade point average. He completed a surgical internship in Charleston, South Carolina before undergoing orthopaedic surgery residency training at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center. At LSU, he gained valuable experience in orthopaedic trauma surgery at the famous Charity Hospital in New Orleans.

Dr. Carter joined Summit Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Surgery in 2003, obtaining board certification by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in 2005 and subspecialty certification in sports medicine in 2011. Dr. Carter has been heavily involved in bringing new technology to Southeast Georgia Health System including computer assisted knee replacement, reverse shoulder replacement, resurfacing arthroplasty of the shoulder, and robotic assisted partial knee replacement.

Dr. Carter has served as the team physician for the Brunswick High School Pirates since 2007. He has worked with the Health System’s outstanding team of athletic trainers, physician’s assistants, nurses, and doctors in developing a comprehensive sports medicine program for athletes in Glynn, Camden, and McIntosh counties. He has served as the medical director of Outpatient Rehabilitation since 2005 and as Chief of Surgery at the Health System’s Brunswick campus from 2010 to 2014. He practices general orthopaedic surgery with a subspecialty interest in sports medicine and joint replacement. He is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and the Georgia Orthopaedic Society. Dr. Carter, his wife and their children live in Brunswick.
