Starting her career as a critical care staff nurse, Christine Kipp advanced
to nurse manager, clinical educator, service line director, Chief Nursing
Officer and Vice President of Patient Care. Christine has extensive leadership
experience with more than 15 years as a CNO/VP Patient Care including
large and multi-facility experience. Christine’s scope of responsibility
has included: Critical Care, Emergency Services/Trauma; Cath Lab, Obstetrics,
Nursery, level III NICU, Pediatrics including ICU, Perioperative Services,
PACU, Endoscopy, Progressive Care, Telemetry Monitoring, Medical and Surgical
Units, Orthopedics, Acute Rehab Services, Stroke Team, Respiratory Therapy,
Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner program, Behavioral Health, Wound Care,
Dialysis services, Patient Flow Coordinators, Staffing Office and Administrative
Supervisors. Christine’s skillset includes: establishing a culture
of patient safety, leading performance improvement initiatives, coaching
and development of leadership teams, development of staff shared governance
models, improvement in retention and associate engagement, and helping
the organization meet or exceed financial goals and regulatory standards.
A few highlighted accomplishments include:
- Clinical nursing champion for sepsis project. In first year exceeded all
goals with 29 lives saved and greater than 50% reduction in mortality.
Continued downward trend for 2 subsequent years. CLABSI and VAP reduction
initiatives in multiple facilities 0% for over 12 months.
- Developed and implemented programs promoting recruitment, retention, professional
development, and continuing education of clinical staff in the service
areas resulting in reduction of turnover while decreasing vacancy rates.
In one facility, reduced nursing departmental turnover from 45% to 8%
in less than 12 months.
- In multiple facilities, reduced agency use from millions of dollars per
year to less than $10,000 per month despite increases in capacity and
occupancy. In one facility, eliminated contract nursing in 15 departments
and 70% reduction in remaining 4 departments in 12 months
- Increased productivity from below 90% to over 102% at the same time as
adjusting staffing from a 90 percentile benchmark to less than 50 percentile
during an 18 month period.
- Demonstrated consistent improvement in associate engagement scores in multiple
facilities. Typically statistically significant improvements such as 25%
improvement per year with achievement of top decile scores for direct reports.
Christine Kipp is certified in Executive Nursing Practice (CENP) by the
American Organization of Nurse Executives.
She has completed Master training in TeamStepps.
She has had interim consulting opportunities with hospitals from small to large.
