Healthy Pacers: A Walking Program at Glynn Place Mall
What is Healthy Pacers?
Healthy Pacers is a mall-walking program offered by Southeast Georgia Health
System and Glynn Place Mall. People of all ages and fitness levels are
welcome to join this free program. Participants enjoy staying healthy
by walking at the pace and distance that works best for them! Although
registration is not required, registered Healthy Pacers earn rewards for
miles accumulated and receive special promotions.

Why should I join Healthy Pacers?
A well-lit, level atmosphere with water fountains, convenient rest rooms
and resting areas, the half-mile walking course is safe for all ability
levels. Its climate-controlled environment permits walking year round,
regardless of the weather outside. Walking has become one of the most
popular forms of exercise. Not only is it safe and inexpensive, it is
also a great way to get the health benefits of cardiovascular exercise
without straining bones and joints. The only necessary equipment is a
pair of good walking shoes and comfortable clothes.
Research from the American Heart Association shows that walking daily can:
- Decrease risk of breast and colon cancer
- Help control blood pressure and cholesterol
- Help prevent type 2 diabetes
- Improve circulation and muscle tone
- Increase energy and mental well-being
- Increase balance and coordination
- Lead to weight loss
- Promote relaxation and sleep
- Reduce risk of dementia and
- Alzheimer's disease
- Strengthen bones
That's quite a bit of benefit for the price of a pair of walking shoes!
What is the benefit of registering for Healthy Pacers?
Benefits are offered to participants who choose to register, such as free
pedometers, special incentives, a walking log and "sneaker tags"
to mark miles walked. Additionally, registered walkers receive notifications
of special events, such as free blood pressure checks and health fairs.
As you reach goals of 100, 500 and 1,000 miles walked, you'll earn
a "sneaker tag" in recognition of your accomplishment. Best
of all, you'll have the satisfaction of achieving a significant goal
that will enhance your health and fitness level.
Each month, submit your walking log to the Southeast Georgia Health System
Health Promotion & Wellness Department to earn rewards for miles accumulated.
