Wolfson Children’s at Southeast Georgia Health System opened in September 2013 to expand the number of pediatric medical specialty services available to Coastal Georgia children. Located in the Southeast Georgia Health System Medical Plaza, adjacent to the Brunswick Campus, services include pediatric cardiology provided by physicians with the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville and pediatric urology provided by Nemours Children’s Clinic, Jacksonville. All physicians who see patients at this Wolfson Children’s specialty center are on the medical staff of nationally recognized Wolfson Children’s Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. In addition, pediatric outpatient rehabilitation services are offered by Southeast Georgia Health System in partnership with Wolfson Children’s Rehabilitation. Other services are expected to be offered at Wolfson Children’s at Southeast Georgia Health System in the future.

Pediatric Rehabilitation

The rehabilitation needs of children are much different from those seen in adults. The Outpatient Pediatric Rehabilitation Center specializes in meeting the needs of children with movement, sensory and communication difficulties that affect their ability to enjoy many of the normal activities of life. Our pediatric physical, occupational and speech-language therapists are trained and skilled in working with children and young teens who face challenges developing ppropriate skills and completing daily tasks associated with early childhood health conditions.

Just for Kids

Comprehensive programs comprised of occupational, physical and speech therapies are designed to meet the specific needs of each child. The staff encourages parent and family participation, providing them with the necessary information to be successful in supporting
their child’s continued development and recovery. Our team of therapists provide the following services:

Occupational Therapy

  • Fine motor difficulties
  • Coordination difficulties
  • Activities of daily living (ADL)
  • Arm/hand/shoulder injuries
  • Visual perception difficulties
  • Poor social skills
  • Poor behavioral skills
  • Motor planning disturbances
  • Sensory integration dysfunction

Physical Therapy

Speech-Language Pathology

Sports & Orthopedic Program

Children and teenagers up to age 15 with sports injuries receive a program of physical therapy designed for young bodies that are still growing. Individual treatment plans linked to stage of maturity and style of learning include:

  • Functional strengthening activities
  • Neuromuscular techniques
  • Gait training
  • Soft tissue mobilization
  • Manual therapy modalities
  • Home exercise plans
  • Ongoing patient and family instruction

Goals of the program include:

  • Safely returning young athletes to sports or the activities of their choice
  • Educating the patient and family on his or her specific medical condition
  • Preventing further injury or re-injury
  • Preventing or minimizing deformity
  • Maximizing functional ability at home, at school and in the community

Assessment and treatment are provided for:

  • Post-surgical orthopedic conditions
  • Patellar pain syndrome and subluxation
  • Ligament strains and tears
  • Meniscal tears
  • Overuse injuries of the shoulder, elbow or lower extremity
  • Fractures
  • Back pain and scoliosis
  • Tendonitis
