Turner & Associates Insurance Bridge Run Team Is Ready to Tackle the Bridge

The Southeast Georgia Health System 2014 Bridge Run over the SidneyLanierBridgehas grown tremendously in recent years as word of the challenging event has spread throughout the running community in the Golden Isles and beyond. Record numbers are expected for this year’s Bridge Run on February 15.

While many enjoy the competition and the challenge of the bridge, for others who walk or run as part of a team, the Bridge Run is an opportunity for fun, fellowship and fitness while supporting the Health System’s cancer care programs. The team of employees from Turner and Associates Insurance is one example. Heather Colvin, who serves as team captain, said “We like to find ways that we can get together outside of work and have some fun, and the Bridge Run is for a good cause. Our employees support the community by participating in various activities or committees, but this is one we like to do together.”

The Turner and Associates team has 18 people joining them for the Bridge Run this year, including 10 employees and eight family members. “We are a family oriented company, so we like to get our spouses and kids involved. Last year, we had older teenagers as well as younger kids on the team with us, including a kindergartner,” Colvin said. “We have several employees who are runners, but not everyone runs. Some walk and some do a combination.”

The Bridge Run is considered challenging and should not be attempted by those not properly trained.

More than 2,200 runners and walkers are expected to attend this year’s Bridge Run. In addition, the Bridge Run Vendor and Runners Expo will host a wide array of local and regional businesses offering great food, desserts, running shoes, walking and exercise gear, motorcycle and ATVs,games and face painting, along with important information to improve and enhance personal health and harmony. Participants are encouraged to bring cash for vendors; ATMs will not be available.

The registration fee for both the run and the walk is $30 per person until Feb. 3 and increases to $40 on Feb. 4. There is a $2 discount per person for teams of 10 or more. Those competing in the 5K run must register by Feb. 12, through www.sghs.org or www.active.com, or by calling 800-537-5142, ext. 2786.

Those participating in the 5K as a walker may register on the day of the event from 7-8 a.m. Because of the steep grade on the bridge, baby strollers, running strollers or roller blades are NOT permitted during the Bridge Run. For more information, please call 912-466-BRUN (2786).
