Bob Groote dreaded the thought of having total hip replacement surgery. As the owner of a busy commercial real estate brokerage, he didn't have time to be out of commission. Eventually the pain became unbearable, and he agreed to undergo surgery at the Southeast Georgia Health System Brunswick Campus.
Denny A. Carter, M.D., board-certified orthopaedic surgeon and chief of surgery for the Brunswick Campus, performed Bob's surgery in October 2010. Up and walking within two days of the procedure, Bob was pleasantly surprised by the experience. Soon after, he began physical therapy at the Outpatient Rehabilitation Care Center on the Camden Campus.
A former college and professional football player, Bob was no stranger to physical therapy and rose to the challenge. He especially appreciated the thoroughness and inspirational manner of his physical therapist, Jeff Zawislak, MPT, manager, Rehabilitation Care Center-Camden. "Jeff was absolutely outstanding," says Bob. "He was very encouraging and always took the time to answer questions and explain things in an understandable way. I can't say enough good things about him."
Bob completed his therapy in eight weeks and diligently followed his prescribed at-home exercises. Now pain-free, he is back to work at his real estate firm, playing golf, running on a treadmill and playing with his grandson.
"Hopefully, I won't have to go through all that again, but I definitely know where to go if I do," says Bob. "They made the experience as pleasant as it could possibly be."
