Radiation therapy is used on most types of cancers, including breast, lung, prostate and skin cancer, as well as brain tumors. The radiation can be delivered externally, using highly focused beams of energy, or internally through the implantation of radioactive substances, typically called seeds. The goal of radiation therapy is twofold: to destroy as many cancer cells as possible, and to limit harm to surrounding healthy tissue.
All of our radiation oncologists are board-certified by the American College of Radiology. To provide these outstanding physicians with the best tools available, Southeast Georgia Health System has invested in scientific advances that deliver faster and more accurate radiation treatments.
