Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)- Cancer Care Center at Southeast Georgia Health System

The Cancer Care Center is home to two Varian Clinac Linear Accelerators. This state-of-the-art technology is used to deliver what is called intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) - the most advanced and precise method of external beam radiation therapy. IMRT allows doctors to customize the radiation dose by modulating, or varying, the amount of radiation given to different parts of the treatment area. This modulation is done in highly accurate, three-dimensional detail, according to the shape, size and location of the tumor. By pinpointing the location and strength of the radiation, experts are able to spare your healthy tissue from radiation and reduce unwanted side effects.
