Kid Fit Challenge
Making wellness fit by making wellness fun.
Fight childhood obesity with diet and exercise.
Kid Fit Challenge is a comprehensive eight-week wellness program designed for children ages 8 through 12 to combat the obesity trend in our local community.
Health concerns associated with being overweight.
Childhood obesity is a growing epidemic throughout the United States and in coastal Georgia. Experts estimate as many as 30 percent of children and adolescents are overweight or obese. A dramatic increase in diabetes, hypertension, and other diseases related to this condition is an unfortunate consequence of the obesity epidemic.
A number of factors contribute to this significant health issue, including environmental, socioeconomic and dietary patterns and a lack of physical activity. With many hours of “screen time” in front of a TV or computer each day, a lack of safe areas to play and super-sized food portions, more and more children lead an unhealthy and sedentary lifestyle.
Make living healthy part of your child's lifestyle.
Kid Fit Challenge includes nutrition education provided by a Health System registered dietitian, presentations on a variety of wellness topics, fitness center passes to the YMCA and The Club, wellness information for the entire family, prizes and fun exercises.
By incorporating functional, child-appropriate education and exercise, Kid Fit Challenge encourages participants to develop both physically and mentally. The program enhances each participant’s self-esteem and confidence as the children successfully complete exercise goals and increase their overall strength, flexibility, agility and aerobic capacity. At the end of the eight week program, participants will be equipped to make better wellness choices and lead a more active, healthier life.
