Health System Welcomes Glynn County's First Baby of 2011
BRUNSWICK, Georgia: Jan. 1, 2011 – Lane and Joe Applegate of St. Simons Island welcome the newest addition to their family, Ella Rae Applegate. She arrived at 1:22 a.m. on New Year’s Day at the Southeast Georgia Health System Miriam & Hugh Nunnally Maternity Care Center in Brunswick as Glynn County’s first baby of 2011. She was delivered by Matthew Johnston M.D., and weighed in at 6 lbs., 8 oz., and measured 20 inches long. She is the couple’s first child, as well as the first grandchild on both sides of the family and the family’s first great-grandchild. Maternal grandparents are Gloria and Tony Adams of Rockmart, Ga., while paternal grandparents are Jennifer and Zdenek Kuja and Janice and Steve Applegate, all of St. Simons Island. The new great-grandmother is Betty Peeples of Swainsboro.
Each year, more than 1,500 babies are born at the Miriam & Hugh Nunnally Maternity Care Center. Not only is little Ella this year’s first baby, but she is the first New Year’s baby to arrive in the newly expanded and renovated Center.
The Health System unveiled the completed Miriam & Hugh Nunnally Maternity Care Center in September 2010. The Center features 6,550 feet of additional space along with 24 redesigned labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum rooms (LDRPs) with the latest technologies that allow mothers and their babies to remain in the same room throughout their stay. Other features include a tranquil adult garden space and an outdoor children’s play area so big brothers and sisters can burn off energy as they await the arrival of the newest member of the family.
To welcome Ella, the Health System presented the happy parents with a large gift basket full of gifts and baby care necessities from the Southeast Georgia Health System Brunswick Campus Gift Shop.
