Health System To Honor Physicians National Doctors’ Day – March 30

BRUNSWICK, Georgia: March 19, 2008 – In recognition of National Doctors’ Day, March 30, Southeast Georgia Health System will recognize the more than 325 physicians that have privileges at its multiple facilities in Glynn, Camden, Brantley, and McIntosh counties who dedicate their time in taking care of our communities.

“Each year we take the time to recognize our physicians, who through their dedication and sacrifices, have helped our Health System become a leader in health care. We continuously hear about not only the professionalism and level of expertise of our doctors, but how they go above and beyond patient and family expectations. The compassion and caring from our doctors’ is at the very heart of what is important to our patients in addition to the world class medical treatment they provide,” says Health System President and CEO Gary R. Colberg, FACHE. “We are proud of what they do every day as they work side-by-side with our team of top-notch staff and medical professionals.”

In recognition for the outstanding services our physicians provide, the Health System is purchasing commemorative engraved bricks in honor of each physician. These bricks are part of the Health System’s Foundation’s fundraising efforts known as the Brick by Brick program. The bricks will be permanently installed in the Health Systems campus walkways for all our patients, physicians, team members and volunteers to see. This program, which is also open to the public, is a lasting memorial and the proceeds benefit the Foundation’s many causes that help fund patient care.

Additionally, the physicians will be honored with a Doctors’ Day Luncheon. Physicians will be honored at the Brunswick Campus on Friday, March 28, and at the Camden Campus, on Monday, March 31.

The first Doctors’ Day was observed on March 30, 1933, in the small town of Winder, Georgia. While the day was celebrated in Georgia, it did not become a national holiday until Oct. 30, 1990, when then President George H.W. Bush signed the law designating March 30 as National Doctors’ Day.
