Health System Orthopaedic Surgeons Earn Board Certification

BRUNSWICK, Georgia: Nov. 14, 2007 – Orthopaedic surgeons Thomas “Beau” Sasser Jr., MD, and Ralph “Buck” Cavalier, MD, recently earned their board certifications through the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. The two physicians practice at Summit Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Surgery and are both on the medical staffs of the Brunswick and Camden campuses of Southeast Georgia Health System.

Dr. Sasser is a native of Glynn County and graduated from Glynn Academy in 1990. He attended undergraduate school at Emory as well as Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. Dr. Sasser returned to Georgia and earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia, where he remained to complete both his internship and orthopaedic residency.

After completion of the residency program, Dr. Sasser received sports medicine training in a fellowship program at the Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute. While there, he worked as the team physician for the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs. Upon completed his medical training in 2005, Dr. Sasser returned to Glynn County and joined Summit, where his sports medicine/shoulder practice continues.

Dr. Cavalier earned his medical degree in 1999 from the Medical College of Pennsylvania-Hahnemann University School of Medicine (now Drexel University). During his clinical clerkship there, he received the Excellence of Orthopaedic Surgery Award.

Following medical school, Dr. Cavalier stayed at Drexel for this internship and orthopaedic residency training. During his residency, Dr. Cavalier helped provide orthopaedic care to the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles, the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers, as well as Division I college athletes. After completing his residence, Dr. Cavalier completed a fellowship in spinal surgery and the internationally known Leatherman Spine Center in Louisville, Ky., where he trained with some of the nation’s leading spine surgeons, before moving to Georgia and joining the staff at Summit.
