Health System Names Valarie Manor and Katie Martin Stars of the Quarter

Southeast Georgia Health System is pleased to announce the naming of Valarie Manor, CNA, and Katie Martin, PTA, as Stars of the Quarter.

Each quarter, Health System team members nominate their peers for performance that exceeds the Health System’s standards of service excellence: initiative, dedication, accountability, compassion, ownership, and teamwork. From the many nominations, only two—one from each campus—are chosen to be a Star of the Quarter.

Valarie Manor, a certified nurse assistant at the Senior Care Center-Brunswick, is the Brunswick Campus Star of the Quarter. A Health System team member since 2011, Manor’s exemplary job performance, knowledge and compassion are consistently above and beyond, and according to her peers, "she should mentor all the CNAs." An outstanding resident advocate, Manor ensures residents receive the very best care and that their needs are met, from providing warm washcloths before meals to assisting with their personal hygiene and presentation. Manor is quick to volunteer for extra shifts when needed and is attending courses to become a licensed practical nurse (LPN)—all as a single parent.

"Every day, Valarie can be seen going above and beyond for our residents and her fellow team members," says Patrick D. Ebri, Ph.D., FACHE, vice president, Human Resources. "When asked to provide assistance, she does so without hesitation, and if she sees something that needs attention, she fixes it or brings it to management’s attention. Her great smile and willingness to help others, no matter the task, are admirable and we are pleased to name her Star of the Quarter."

Katie Martin, a physical therapy assistant (PTA) at the Senior Care Center-St. Marys since 2006, is the Camden Campus Star of the Quarter. As a Rehab Team Leader, Martin coordinates care for the residents, treating them as family, and tirelessly supports staff development with her technical expertise and leadership. During the recent implementation of new long-term care software at the Senior Care Center, her peers reported "she shares her knowledge in such a respectful manner that learning doesn’t feel intimidating." A proactive resident advocate, Martin seeks professional opinions to achieve optimal resident outcomes as well as to enhance her skills and knowledge.

"Without a doubt, Katie places great importance on her role as a resident advocate, therapist and team leader," says Ebri. "Her team members value her and are influenced by her efficient, kind, respectful work style. She is a great asset to the Health System and exemplifies our Service Excellence Standards."
