Health System Breast Care Center Receives ACR Accreditation for Mammography
The Southeast Georgia Health System Breast Care Center on the Brunswick Campus has been awarded a three-year term of re-accreditation in mammography following a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
Mammography is a specific type of imaging test that uses a low-dose x-ray system to examine breasts. A mammography exam, called a mammogram, is used to aid in the early detection and diagnosis of breast diseases in women.
“The ACR’s gold seal of accreditation validates our commitment to providing our patients with the highest level of image quality and safety,” says Karen S. Beaver, CRA, MBA, director, Radiology, Southeast Georgia Health System Brunswick Campus. “The combination of technology, patient education, and a dedicated health care team helps to ensure our patients have the best chance for early detection of breast cancer.”
The Breast Care Center at Southeast Georgia Health System encourages women to "make breast care a routine for life." The Center combines compassionate care and state-of-the-art technology in a soothing and comfortable environment, with services seamlessly coordinated to make sure patients receive the best care in a timely manner. Specially trained staff are focused on making the mammogram experience as comfortable as possible while addressing patient concerns with sensitivity and kindness.
The ACR gold seal of accreditation is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the filed. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report they can use for continuous practice improvement.
