Convalescent Center Celebrates National Nursing Home Week

BRUNSWICK, Georgia: June 10, 2008 – St. Marys Convalescent Center (SMCC) held a weeklong celebration in honor of residents and team members during National Nursing Home Week-May 11-17.

National Nursing Home Week was established in 1967 to honor the residents and staff of the nation's long term care facilities. During this week, activities are designed to foster inter-generational relationships, strengthen ties with family members and celebrate quality care.

At SMCC, each day of the week was special. On Monday, everyone enjoyed the Nursing Home Week cookout, while Tuesday was wear your crazy or favorite hat day. Everyone celebrated Wednesday as Pajama Day, while Thursday was Tropical Day, and Friday was Resident Day.

Also celebrating the week were numerous friends and volunteers. Hospice of the Golden Isles sponsored a Tea Cakes and Treats tea for residents. On Wednesday, the Camden/Charlton County Seniors sponsored a picnic for residents and team members at Crooked River State Park, and First Baptist Church of St. Marys hosted a cookout on Thursday. The week's activities concluded with a special performance by Lees' Bell Ensemble on Friday.
