Camden Campus Auxiliary Honored During National Volunteer Week

BRUNSWICK, Georgia: May 20, 2008 – Members of the Southeast Georgia Health System Camden Campus Auxiliary were honored with a special celebration on Tuesday, April 29, during National Volunteer Week. Auxiliary members enjoyed food and fellowship and were recognized for the many hours they volunteer at the Health System’s Camden Campus, as well as the St. Marys Convalescent Center.

The Camden Auxiliary currently has 36 active members who serve in the ICU, 2nd floor for surgery and maternity, the Emergency Care Center, Gift Shop, cafeteria, Human Resources, and Rehabilitation Services. They do various things such as answer phones, file paperwork, escort patients, keep families informed about a loved ones surgery, and keep supplies in order.

According to Jeff Zawislak, assistant administrator in charge of the Camden Campus Auxiliary, the volunteers provided approximately 6,000- hours of service in the past year alone, which translates to $117,000. “The Auxiliary is indispensable to our health system and community. They always seem to bring smiles out of patients, and are always willing to lend a hand to a lost or concerned visitor,” Zawislak says. “Our team members love the help and service that the volunteers provide whether it be to answer a phone, or put together files. We are all better off for having the volunteers as part of our team.”

In addition, the Auxiliary donated $20,000 this year to the Camden Campus. This money was raised through gift shop sales and fundraisers throughout the year, and will be used for patient care services and equipment at the Camden Campus. “It is a pleasure and honor for our team to work with these fine people,” Zawislak says. “We are very fortunate to have the auxiliary as part of our team.”
