Medical Explorers Program
Together with Boy Scouts of America, Coastal Georgia
District, Southeast Georgia Health System has begun a Health Careers Explorer
Post for local students ages 14 – 21. The participants meet monthly at the
health system to hear and experience a presentation from different departments
throughout the system. Explorer Posts are active at both Brunswick and Camden
campuses.
Every month is unique and the students have the opportunity to engage in
hands on activities related to various career paths in healthcare. This program
provides Explorers information on education requirements, potential salaries and
typical responsibilities of careers in a health system. Equipped with scrub top
uniforms, these self-motivated students conduct business about the post and
actively engage in their career search. A group of health system volunteers help
facilitate the post and also mentor students in leadership roles.
The explorers also have the opportunity to volunteer for health system
sponsored events in order to give back to the community. Each of these
activities provides the students with a rich experience that will shape their
future careers not only in healthcare, but other industries as
well.
