Cardiac Care Unit & Pulmonary Critical Care Unit
The Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) is an intensive care unit designed to provide specialized care
to cardiac and other patients whose condition or disease
requires constant monitoring by many staff members.
The Progressive Coronary Care Unit(PCCU) is a step-down unit
also providing specialized care
to our patients. Nurses, physicians, respiratory therapists,
dieticians, speech therapists, physical therapists,
occupational therapists, resource managers and clergy members all
contribute their expertise to meet patients’ overall needs. We encourage
families to share patient care ideas or questions with any of the staff
members.
Overview of Rules for CCU and PCCU • Call extension 2260
and check with staff in CCU before entering unit.
• Call cxtension 2200 and check with staff in PCCU before entering unit.
• If you are asked to step out of a room for a few minutes, please return to
the waiting room. You will be called when you may return.
• Because of respiratory issues, fresh flowers are not allowed in
the CCU.
• Prepared food from home is not allowed in the rooms overnight.
• Due to infection control concerns, infants and young children under 12 are
not allowed in the CCU or the PCCU.
If you have any questions, please ask a nurse. We are here to help in any way
we can.
Keeping in Touch The care of our patients is the
primary focus for our nurses. For that reason, we ask that
families designate one family member to be the contact
person. That person can then relay the information to the family, saving
nurses from repeated and frequent phone calls. Each morning and evening
between 6:30 and 7:30, nursing staffs change and reports are given. Visitation
and phone calls are strongly discouraged during these two one-hour
periods. Please avoid using the phones on the unit as these are our link
between other hospital departments and physicians. There are
two phones in the family waiting room for visitor use, and cell phones are now
allowed in the hospital. The nursing staff would like to thank you for your help
in these matters.
The goal of our staff is to provide a safe and quiet environment that
maximizes the patient’s ability to rest. Because we believe that
family support is important to the patient’s progress, we allow open visitation
within specific guidelines. We ask that only two immediate family members
visit at one time. A phone call from CCU from the waiting room must be made
before visiting to ensure no interruption in patient care occurs. In order to
maintain privacy and confidentiality, we ask that visitors remain in the room
with the patient. When asked to step out of the room, visitors are required to
return to the waiting room rather than stand outside the patient’s door. This
practice ensures that patients receive the privacy they need and deserve. Each
visit to a patient’s room must follow the instructions described above. We would
like to thank you for your cooperation in helping the nursing staff in providing
the best care possible for your loved one.
