Pediatric Rehabilitation
The Pediatric Rehabilitation Program at Southeast
Georgia Health System continues to offer professional rehabilitative services in
the areas of occupational, physical and speech therapies. Our experiences staff
enjoys working with out patients in a child friendly environment.
With the rise of autism in the past decade, our speech therapists have
received advanced training in sensory integration techniques and Beckman’s oral
motor techniques. These therapy treatments provide each patient with a
professional, directed treatment plan that is tailored to his or her individual
needs.
Splinting and bracing are often necessary in order to maximize a child’s
function. Our occupational therapists have an on-site splinting station designed
for the comfort and convenience of the child. The splinting station is brought
to the pediatric area where the necessary fabrication can take place in a
familiar area. The occupational therapists also children on fine motor skills,
such as dressing themselves and helping to perform activities of independent
daily living.
The physical therapists in the pediatric rehabilitation area work on large
motor skills, such as standing and walking. They work closely with other team
members to maximize the function of the individual child. Things such as the
fitting of wheelchairs and bracing for lower extremities can also be handled
with the guidance of a physical therapist.
