Carlton DeVooght oversees the Legal, Real Estate, Medical Staff Services, Compliance, Risk Management and Government Relation matters, as well as the Cancer Care Centers for the Health System.
Prior to coming in-house with the Health System, Mr. DeVooght was a partner with the law firm of Gilbert, Harrell, Sumerford & Martin, P.C. in Brunswick where he specialized in health care, corporate, regulatory and estate planning matters. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Georgia with a B.A. in history and then went on to earn his juris doctorate from the University of Georgia School of Law. While an undergraduate at the University of Georgia, he earned the Georgia Varsity "G" as a four year letter winner on the Men's Varsity Swim Team, was a school record holder, and earned Honorable Mention All-American and Academic All-American honors. Mr. DeVooght earned his MBA with a Certification in Healthcare Management in May 2009 from Brenau University and received the Leadership Award for all of Brenau's graduate programs.
Mr. DeVooght's community involvement includes a variety of professional and civic organizations, including past president of the Brunswick-Glynn Bar Association, past president of the Glynn County Rotary Club, a Will Watts Fellow, past chairman of the Brunswick-Golden Isles Chamber of Commerce, a member of the St. Simons United Methodist Church Council, past board member of the Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Georgia, the International Seafarer's Center, the Coastal Medical Access Project (CMAP), the Glynn County Library Board and the Coastal Symphony. He has also participated in Leadership Georgia, Leadership Southeast Georgia and Leadership Glynn County. Mr. DeVooght is also a Fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives. Currently, he is serving on the Georgia Insurance Commissioner’s Statewide Medical Provider Insurance Advisory Committee, the STAR Foundation Board of Directors, the local board of United Community Bank and was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of the Georgia Academy of Healthcare Attorneys, a division of the Georgia Hospital Association and the Board of Directors of the Georgia Association of Healthcare Executives.
Mr. DeVooght won the Georgia Bar Association's Justice Robert Benham Award for Community Service in 2006, was named to the University of Georgia's Inaugural "40 Under 40" in 2011. He is married to the former Leslie Kirby and they have three children.
