A Healthy Start for the New Year Topic of Upcoming Free Lecture in Brantley

BRUNSWICK, Georgia: Jan. 21, 2008 – Southeast Georgia Health System will present “A Healthy Start for the New Year” as part of the Health System’s ongoing series of free community lectures. This presentation is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 29, at 6 p.m., at the Brantley Family Medicine Center, 21300 Hwy. 82, Suite C, Waynesville. The speaker for the event is Janise Whitesell, MD. Whitesell, a native of South Georgia, is a board-certified family medicine physician and earned her medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon, Georgia, and completed her internship and residency in family medicine at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon. She also holds two undergraduate degrees—a bachelor’s of science in biology from Valdosta State and a degree in general studies from the University of Florida.

From 1993 to 1994, Whitesell taught biology and anatomy/physiology and coached girls junior varsity basketball and softball at Brantley County High School before going on to medical school. She previously was in private practice in Montgomery, Alabama, while her husband, Thomas Whitesell, MD a physician with Southeast Georgia Physician Associates – Internal Medicine office in St. Marys, was completing his internal medicine residency. They moved to Folkston, Georgia, in 2003 where she served as Chief of Staff at Charlton Memorial Hospital from 2005 to 2006 and was Medical Director for the Charlton County Board of Health from 2003 to 2007 when she joined Brantley Family Medicine Center.

Whitesell will discuss recommendations for screenings and tips on how to keep yourself and your family healthy. Following her lecture, she will take questions from the audience and light refreshments will be served.
