The Outpatient Rehabilitation Care Center at the Camden Campus and the
Summit Professional Plaza location in Brunswick offer aquatic therapy
programs. The aquatic therapy program in Camden County is held in the
saltwater pool at Diver’s Den Georgia in St. Marys. The Health System
installed a lift chair to assist patients with limited mobility in getting
in and out of the pool. The Summit Professional Plaza aquatic therapy
program is held on-site.
Aquatic therapy, or pool therapy, is an exercise program performed in
the water. It uses the physical properties of water to assist with exercise
performance and healing. Physical therapists specifically tailor the pool
program to patients’ needs. Swimming experience is not necessary
because most exercise is performed standing in the water.
Numerous diagnoses can be treated with pool therapy, including rheumatoid
arthritis, osteoarthritis, low back pain/surgery, fibromyalgia, sprains
and non-weight bearing injuries. Patients who cannot tolerate land weight
bearing therapy are candidates for aquatic therapy.
