Arthritis Exercise Program

Reducing Arthritis Pain Through Exercise

According to the Arthritis Foundation, physical movement is the “arthritis pain reliever.” Yet, arthritis is often one of the reasons people give to avoid physical activity. The Arthritis Exercise Program at Southeast Georgia Health System helps arthritis sufferers get off the sidelines and enjoy a more active lifestyle.

The eight-week series of classes takes place once a week at the Brunswick Campus Outpatient Rehabilitation Care Center, 2600 Wildwood Drive, from 2-3:30 p.m.

Participants must register prior to the start of each eight-week series. The cost is $45 for the eight-week program. To register, call 912-466-5164.

The program, led by Arthritis Foundation-certified instructors, is designed to help people with arthritis gain flexibility, strengthen their muscles, reduce pain and stiffness, increase energy levels and improve mood. Anyone who routinely experiences joint pain, stiffness, and/or limited range of motion is invited to attend.

The course incorporates the optional use of resistance bands and weights for an added workout as well as interactive health education lessons and stress-reducing relaxation techniques to help participants better manage their arthritis. The low-impact exercises can be done while sitting, standing or on the floor.
